To begin with I got a C70 DBR1. This was a Christopher Ward limited edition of 500 pieces and it followed on from the original C70 series of 6. I had wanted all six of the original set but knew I couldn't afford this and was agonizing over a UK Brooklands or the Italian Rosso Corsa. The DBR1 came along and I went for that. Then Christopher Ward cleared the last few out cheaply so I did pick up the C70 Italian job. They then brought out a C70 Monte Carlo and with a good sale price I could not resist that. Without realising it I had begun to collect the C70 watches. I bid for a few on eBay but was outbid as they were starting to fetch very high prices. I just lost out on a C70 US Cunningham and Jan from the Christopher Ward Forum contacted me. He had not bonded with his C70 Cunningham so he would sell it if I wanted it. He wanted it to go to an enthusiast who would give the watch the love it deserves so we agreed a price and today this beauty arrived at the Post Office. Thank you Jan it has been a pleasure to deal with you.

We are big MINI fans in the car world and we have two MINIs, a Clubman and a MINI Coupe and both of these have Cunningham style stripes on, so I am very pleased now to have a watch with these stripes on too.

Baselworld 2014 will see the reintroduction of the original 1969 Omega Speedmaster Mark II, a timepiece with a streamlined case that was driven by the same space-tested, hand-wound caliber 861 which found fame inside the famous Moonwatch. The result is that each of the editions features a strikingly unique appearance. Inside, a Swiss movement from legendary chronograph specialist and Richemont Group stable mate Minerva provides a timing system with three elements: seconds, minutes, and hours. The movement is visible through a sapphire case back, and what a view it is! Straight-grained levers, beveled bridges adorned with Cotes-de-Geneve, and polished screw heads with polished sinks reveal a machine built by the hands of masters.

Although based in its ancestral Florentine home, Panerai has maintained partnerships with the best Swiss movement manufacturers, including Minerva, Rolex, and Angelus. The Minerva movement in the “1940” is not only assembled but finished in the finest tradition of the Bernese Swiss.

The technical specifications are no less impressive: A 2.5hz escapement drives an enormous balance wheel regulated by a screwed-down swan's neck mechanism. The traditional column wheel, which remains the gold standard for crisp chronograph pusher action, is present and polished.

A mysterious and yet common occurrence; why do some watches stop working when people wear them? Why do some people seem to stop every watch they put on their wrist?

Many sources suggest that it is the watch itself, either being made poorly or the movement not being protected sufficiently from static electricity. While others who experience this problem regularly, swear it is in fact their body, whether it be a strong electromagnetic current or other form of electric or magnetic abnormality. The most common “proof” given is that if someone else puts the same the watch on, it runs fine. However, there have been studies which concluded that the body doesn't produce a significant enough source of such energy to cause this. Others claim that it may be another jewelry item that is being worn which may contain a magnetic clasp or be causing a disruption in current if in close proximity to the watch – or perhaps even another electronic device such as a cell phone, hearing aid, MP3 player, pacemaker, or fitness tracker.
